The Catholics are Pissed!

Recently, PZ Myers blogged about the Catholic League's outrage at a boy who smuggled out a cracker. Well, now they want him fired.

Today I penned this e-mail to UMN's president Robert Bruininks (Bruin001@umn.edu), and encourage all of you to follow suit:

Dr. Bruininks,

It has come to my attention that the Catholic League has demanded that one of your professors, Dr. PZ Myers, be fired over his frank appraisal of their practices. It is my opinion, and the shared opinion of the more than 300 students in organizations I lead here at Missouri State University, that this would be highly unfair.

Academia is one of the last bastions of scrutiny and skepticism we have left, and its reliance on academic honesty and accountability are paramount. No claim can be sacred in the Ivory Tower - and especially not in regards to what professors do with their personal lives. The idea that Dr. Myers should lose his job over maintaining those standards, even when he is not bound to acting as a representative of your university, is so preposterous as to be offensive.

Your university must surely be proud to have a professor like Myers, who utilizes so much of his undoubtedly limited free time being a player in changing the world, and for you to lose him over those offended at his criticism would be more than a travesty.

Thank you for taking the time.

McCain

John McCain strolled through our neck of the woods today (not to be confused with John McClane from Die Hard), and we figured we should go down and give him a healthy dose of what for.
We worked closely with members of a local Anarchist Infoshop called The Radish (we call 'em Radishites), Peace Network of the Ozarks, and Planned Parenthood to combat the politically corrupt retardation that is John McCain.
We ended up getting quite the gatheration going. Although some moronic Creationists operating under the guise of "pro education" came out, we were able to keep control of the situation, and we certainly had the numbers on our side. Video and pictures should be up later tonight.

You know, it's funny. We got a lot of McCain's supporters walking past us saying things like, "Don't you have anything better to do?" and, "Pffft. What's your definition of 'Peace'?" and, "My father fought so that you would have the right to make that stinking sign!"
However, not a single person was willing to calmly and rationally stand and discuss their beliefs. We were asking them nicely to discuss why they believed what they believed, standing there calmly and explaining that we were here to be accountable for what we believed, and trying to meet their accusations will logical conjecture, but not a single person would stand and discuss their beliefs with us.
Huh.
It's almost as if they're weak, corrupt bastards who know that we're right.

(Note to any McCain supporters out there: hit me up in the comments section with your email address and we'll have an online dialog. You can be accountable for what you say!)

Brother Jed on campus - Day Two

As Amber already mentioned in an earlier blog, we did JedFest yesterday, raised a lot of moneys for Heifer International and bought rabbits and chickens for some hungry people thanks to it. Awesome awesome awesome. We worked with Brother Jed and it paid off for six families in impoverished parts of the world.

But today, things were back to normal.

Casey (right) says, "Hey, how are you today?"
Sister Pat (left) says, "Are you looking for attention? Your parents must not love you. And by the way, your belly button is showing and that's indecent. Boys are going to try to get in your pants!"

Sex??? Oh noes!!

Sister Pat asks, "Are you a virgin?"

This guy replies, "Yes. I mean, no. I have a kid."

After Ryan says he will convert to Christianity if Brother Jed gives him evidence as to why Christianity is more likely to be the one true religion over other religions, Brother Jed says, "Blah blah bible. Blah blah faith. Blah blah sin. Blah blah bible."

Photobucket
Ryan has a question.

Ryan says, "So can you give me evidence."

Brother Jed says, "I'm giving you evidence. Blah blah bible! Blah blah faith!"
Ryan says, "Shenanigans!"
