VOTE - Carly Ann's Thoughts on the Issues
Please vote Obama! Here are my other endorsements:

Sara Lampe is running for State Rep in the 138th district, which is my district. Nancy Hagen is running for State Rep in the 135th district, further south in Springfield. Both women are endorsed by PROMO, Missouri's only Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender advocacy organization. And they don't give out endorsements lightly. So I will be voting for Sara, but if you are in the 135 vote Nancy Hagen!
No on Amendment 4. It's confusing, it has special interests in mind and it's not worthwhile in any way from what I've heard.

No on Proposition A, casino tax to schools. I don't think it's what they're making it out to be on the commercials. Check this blog for more info.

We all know about the "Bradley Effect". People say they will be voting for a black candidate, but just can't pull the lever when they get into the voting booth.
An interesting possibility is being discussed that this might shift in this election. Perhaps the individual racist tendencies of one person will be overrun by the self-interest for that person. Yes, Obama is (half) black. But he is going to help the economy, get my son out of Iraq, help the working man, and try to improve healthcare.
Sure, they may be racist, but at some point self-interest may override the racism.

You know... I am 1000% opposed to prejudice. But it does make me happy that people are beginning to look past it, if only for their own self interest.

From the interior of the house, he calls back, "We're voting for the nigger!" At which point the housewife turns to the canvasser and calmly repeats her husband's declaration.

Obama + Springfield = <3
Obama is coming to Springfield on Saturday.
This is very exciting news. If anyone hasn't caught on, Obama is sorta a big deal.
The event is planned for Saturday evening. It is going to start at 6:00 pm over at JFK stadium at Parkview High School.
My plan is to get into town early Saturday morning and keep an eye on the site until people start lining up, and then assume position in the line. I am pretty sure that the rest of Teh Juggernauts will be there vibrating with excitement. You will probably also see a whole array of other honorary team members, assorted Pastafarians, and a few radical parents. =)
This is a first-come-first-serve event and I would encourage getting there early if anyone wants to join into the fray!

Obama's Speech in Springfield
When McCain came, we protested. His followers derided us, blustered, exhibited offense, and showed a strong unwillingness to discuss why they believed the things they did.
When eight protesters showed up for Obama's speech, we went and gave them a hand in our pink Planned Parenthood shirts:
How could we resist? The irony of a McCain supporter holding a sign that reads "Obama is 4 Big Government" is so palpable you could drown in it. Additionally, he couldn't take the time to write out the three letters in the word "for" - AOL speak is what this particular protester finds to be the best means to eloquence in this case. But was he really a protester?
There's some confusion about whether or not the people with signs are protesters. In the News-Leader story Jack Jackson, the co-chair for the Republican presidential nominee in Missouri, says "We're not protesters." He is either lacking a suitable definition for "protest," or he is purposefully being disingenuous. My money is on the latter.
Jackson and his group of eight (and a lot more, particular in this region of the country and increasingly more as they begin to believe certain unreasonable propositions about Jesus) have bought into this weasely method of defending what you do. For instance, the Bush administration does not torture, they simply derive information under the duress of drowning people, they are not spying on Americans, they are just reserving access to their communications without telling anybody and without oversight, and countless others.
The things is, we wouldn't care if they were protesters. These people showed up ten minutes before the door opened (compare that to our protest of McCain, when we were out there for about eight hours), and before they did, we had lamented that the "other side" hadn't come out and made their voices heard. While their voices were small, weak, and ineffectual, we're still glad they showed up - we love people who are passionate enough to protest. Why would you want to dodge that label?
Unless, of course, there are rules set up to prevent candidates and their campaigns from generating protests. That would be a good reason to try and dodge the protest label, and it would certainly be in-keeping with the Republican wishy-washy plays on definition I listed above.
About Obama's speech (to watch the speech, go here). The intro to his speech was given by Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill. She was given a standing ovation by almost everybody - I was one of the few who refrained. Her speech was purely empty rhetoric and appeal to emotion, both of which I do not care for as speaking tactics. Energizing a group is great, but it should be built around a tangible idea or reason, and her speech lacked anything resembling either.
Obama's speech on the other hand was positively brilliant. McCain attempts to hammer him on his lack of understanding of economics (even Obama himself has expressed that he will defer to economists on the economy, in a sense admitting his lack of expertise). However, Obama's speech focused on the economy, and it was well-researched, cogent, and logical. Not only did he identify problems, he isolated what does not work, explained why, and then outlined his plan and why it would work. The guy has solutions in mind, and the data and fact to back them up.
Also, not once did he attack John McCain or his character: merely the ideas that McCain has, and in this he was just as able to wield reason and data. The man really can defend his beliefs and he can do so with all of the security and confidence of somebody who is informed and rational.
I left more convinced than before that Barrack Obama has the potential, given his intellect and leadership abilities, to be a great leader for us. He is certainly the best candidate available in this election.

Obama + Planned Parenthood = <3
I just read on Feministing that Planned Parenthood has officially endorsed Obama.
Watch their president, Cecile Richards, announce their endorsement, and Obama accept the endorsement... HERE.
I have previously mentioned my affinity for Obama.
I have also mentioned my affinity for Planned Parenthood.
I think it is important that we remember that Planned Parenthood does not only offer abortion procedures.
As a young woman they have given me free condoms, a prescription for affordable oral contraceptives, emergency contraception, and they have tested my partner and I for sexually transmitted diseases at a fraction of the cost of a normal physician.
They, most likely, have saved me from facing an unintended pregnancy. Because of their presence in this community I have never been faced with the decision of abortion.
I am glad to see that they have endorsed Obama. A lot is riding on this election, including the next nomination for the Supreme Court.
McCain has sworn to do everything in his power to overthrow Roe v. Wade. I am glad that Planned Parenthood is speaking out in favor of the better candidate, one who trusts women with their own bodies.

More praise for Obama.
Phil Plait, the Bad Astronomer, recently mentioned that McCain is a real fan of ABBA. It is a shame that his tax plan ignored their message of the capitalist hopes and dreams imposed on the lower classes.

Now, I'm not one of those damnable Coffee Shop Revolutionaries who try to work with the opposition. I'm all about that violence towards "elected" officials who don't serve We the People. You know, removing them from power one way or another, taking back what's ours (the wealth), and mocking the living bejesus out of the intolerant. Maybe you've heard.
While Barack Obama is heralded by most "leftists" as the most amazing dude to hit Earth since J. Chrizzist supposedly got the RAGE Virus, I've been skeptical. After all, he's rich, he's a capitalist, and he's a Democrat, which seems to suggest more empty promises. I'm sorry, but I'm just not ready to be swindled again.
Well, today I've had to rethink some of that. Barack Obama has just announced that the Democratic National Committee will no longer accept funding from lobbyist groups.

It seems that one of my biggest gripes with the Federal Government, that they don't work for us, is being worked on by the (probable) next President of the United States of America. While I'm still pessimistic, and think that this is probably just another way to gain public praise, I have to admit, I'm about ready to see where Obama steers this stupid country of ours.
